MM Question - Basting

He says he basted it once every 20 minutes or so after the first hour. But he doesn't say what he basted it with. What am I missing?

baste it with the pan liquid, the melted butter & wine... you can use a bulb baster or a ladle if you can fit it in therehappy in the hut

I just use a rubber BBQ brush and brush it on.
