Mini or Small

Due to some life changes I am getting rid of my XL. I am moving into an upper level apartment with no balcony. Grilling is allowed but must be at least 15 ft away from the building. So since I would need to carry whatever grill I am going to use up and down the stairs to the outside, my first though would be a mini. Is there anyone out there in that situation that uses a small. I think even with a mini I will miss some slo and lo cooking since reloading may be a pain. All comments are welcome and appreciated.

If you still want ready bge accessories and more smoking capacity, I would go with the small. You can certainly do it on the mini but more versatility with the size of the small.

You can make up a cart or dolly to transport the small easier. Maybe something with some air filled wheels (6-8 inch diameter)

Yes thats my thinking but i am wondering how much of a pain it will be carrying it in and out up and down the stairs from the second floor.-Eddie

You could make an egg carrier or get some pot lifters to carry it around. For full versatility and size, I would go with the small. I have both and if I could only have one, that would be the one.

If that is your sole cooker, and there is any way you can swing it, I'd get the small. Not sure how many steps you have to go down, or how big you are, but at 6 feet/180 lbs I feel comfortable carrying the small down steps. The soft wheeled dolly sounds good too! Strap it in and be on your way.
Cheers

weight is 65 vs 30 lbs.. that is your call .please figure into your decision.... "taking it back upstairs when it is hot" mini will cool down faster, is more easily cleaned of hot lump etc..and could be emptied of hot lump and stored in the trunk of your car over night..
just a few random thoughts. hope you are settled in and eggin soon

I also have a small and mini - I like them both but if I only had one it would be the small. Up and down stairs is a bummer but obviously doable. Waiting for the egg to cool down is an issue and your apartment will have a charcoal air about it. Wonder if the aroma will creep to the neighbors and cause an issue.

JerseyEgger,
Does the apartment have storage lockers available. I think the lump smell may be a big factor.

It will be a royal pain in the ace lugging a Small up and down stairs. Going down is bad. Going up impossible. Where do you live in Jersey? If you buy a Small and tire of the lugging and are looking to unload. Give a yell. I live about 10 miles west of the GWB.

I'd sell the XL and buy a small AND mini. You'd probably use the mini for most of your direct grilling needs but when you need to do lo and slo the small would be there for you.

Darn Chris, put some weight on, your going to fade away.
Hope all is well with the wife and daughters, the girls should be getting big.
My Best,
Bordello
