I really like the incorporation of the ash bin. That is a nice addition.

Thanks. The ash bin has a metal mesh floor so that if hot coals fall in there it doesn't light the thing on fire. The bottom shelf is cedar, the legs are pressure treated and the top skirt is fir. It might look a little weird except the dark stain. I already have the bottle opener.

Thats going to be a nice table

I agree! Next time even if I do not make an ash bin. I want to have a hole in the platform, so the ashes can fall through, into a container. -
Hey Ed,
That's one solid and good looking table; loolkin'fwd to seeing it with the tile installed.
Would you explain the box set up, i.e., where the egg will be sitting - I think I get it but would like to know for sure.
Thanks, -
The ash box is the stand for the egg. The egg will sit on egg-feet on firebricks over the hardi-board. The box is made of 2x6's that line up with cross bracing under the lower shelf. The ashtray sits on wire mesh in the ash box.
I bought slate for the top, but worry about it staining and being hard to clean. Anyone have any opinions about a slate table top? The tile was clearance priced so it cost me about $20 for all of it.
