Does anyone know if Costco sells USDA Prime meat? For some reason I think that they do. :huh: I think I've been in there and seen a USDA Prime ribeye roast and was like "yeah, right. prime my a$$". Allthough if it's marked as prime doesn't it mean it's been inspected as such? All these threads about aging beef has got me thinking maybe i should try it. Anyone have any experience on this or am i imagining things again? :ermm:

If it's USDA marked as prime it is prime.

You don't have to have prime beef to age it. Drying is something you do to beef to intensify the flavor, it makes a prime piece of beef amazing and a choice piece of beef terrific.

There have been reports that some Costco's have prime beef but I've never seen any at ours.

Costco here in the NE side of Atlanta (2 locations) regularly carry whole prime beef primals.

We have Prime beef at our Costco here. They have various cuts. Ribeye, NY Strip and Rib Roasts. You can also get a whole cut of meat and cut it yourself and save about 30% from the regular price.
They change their prices every Tuesday and Friday. Currently the NY STrip and Ribeyes are running $11.99 a lb. About 8 months ago they were $7.99 and the prices go up and down like teh stock market. :laugh:

The Costco Magazine (October) had an article

That stated that after Thanksgiving (U.S.) that they would offer Prime Prime Rib.

Up here in MD, the Gaithersburg store and the Columbia store usually have prime new york strip and/or ribeyes for around $10-$12/lb with a lot of extra fat (so its really $12 to $15/lb). The Frederick store never seems to have it.

Varies by location - for example, the one in Palm Springs that we visit every so often almost always has Prime Ribeyes, and then Prime Prime Rib during the holidays.

The Costco in San Bernardino seldom has any Primes.
