I can't wait to break in the new LBGE this weekend! :cheer: :cheer:
Have done a couple of cooks on the medium this week b/c I feel like I needed to do something special for the first cook on the large. I got the plate setter yesterday from my dealer but that's the only accessory I have for now.

She looks beautiful, except the metal top definitely needs to be broken in. Do you plan to bake it in lard?

vertical chicken is a nice easy first cook!a little evoo, salt pepper,a little light rub is all you need!!!
-
I am not sure what deadskin meant. But, there is not need to season you platesetter.
-
Since it is brand new, it would be an ideal set-up to try some baking on it.
Is there anything you've been really wanting to try? -
Boy they look pretty when they are new!
Suggestion... Chicken breasts or thighs are easy cooks.
Also.Give your cast iron damper ( daisy wheel) a coating of vegetable oil and store it inside your egg when you are not using it..it will rust if left out in the elements. -
How about country ribs? They are a nice easy cook that are very forgiving.

depends on what you're hungry for and how much time you have.....personally I would do a nice slab of ribs, indirect @ 250 until fallin off the bone

I'm with Sooner. Do some ribs. You have a couple of cooks and you know how the egg works. Do some ribs at 250 dome 3-2-1 style with good sauce and plenty of adult beverage :woohoo: :woohoo: :woohoo:

What I cannot believe is that you have a new Egg and are waiting until this weekend to cook something.
At the very least, you might as well play with the temp control and throw on a potato to bake!
I cannot disagree with any of the suggestions, but I always sugges that people pick whatever was their favorite or most comfortable cook on thir old grill and go with that. It will be easier and better on the Egg. -
Seriuosly. My very first cook was Beer can chicken. A couple of them. They turned out great! Chicken is an easy 'get acquainted' with your egg cook.
Good luck and don't forget to post what you cook. This is the greatest signature EVAR! -
I second the motion for spatchcock chicken. It came out better than any beer can chicken I have ever made and it took almost no work.
By the way, I have never oiled my daisy wheel and it has never rusted. I just put it inside the egg when I am done cooking.Large BGE

My 1st was a spatchcock chicken turne out great, but then again so has everything else  No complaints to date. I'm sure what ever you decide will be well worth while!

Good call Gene! I may stick to something familiar for the first few just to get my confidence up! Probably do some spares. I need to get great at something before I start trying new things!

Gotta Love a brand new Egg. I am a fan of the nest & mates set up, it's how I have my Large. If you have a cover for it, you might think about taking a piece of sand paper to the ends of the mate slats. They are pretty rough from the factory and tend to catch on the cover leaving pieces of lint behind.
As for the Daisy wheel, I just hit mine with a shot of Pam on occassion and store it in the egg.
Good Luck on your first Large cook.
