O.K.
Had Mapp gas in the past but the torch finally went bad, have regular propane now but, well you know. So thinking of the weed burner. Is this what your using and will it work with a hand held propane bottle?

Technically it will work, but the fitting sizes are different. Adapters are hard to come by as well.

Thanks Ron,
I really like the weber started cubes but they are hard to find here, I find the regular propane torch a "pain" LOL
So trying to decide between another mapp unit or weed burner but don't want to have the big propane tank.

Lugging the big tank around is a pain in the rear, which is why I dont use mine anymore. I use the cubes.
Your best option may be to just stick with what you are familiar with, even if having to re invest.
Good Luck!
Oh, and by the way. Weber does make an adapter, which is to be used in the opposite fashion but would work. It is for using a full size tank with their little weber Q thing. It's pricey though. -
Haaa... I thought you were talking about one of these...
But then again, I'm sure they've lit some fires in their time LOL

That is the one I have. It works well. The adapter you need is also available from Harbor Freight.
I use the weed burner when it is close to or below 0°. Other than that, paper towel & oil or alcohol (the rubbing kind).
Why don't you try using oil/paper towel. If you really like cubes you can pick up some self starting fire place logs. Just cut a hunk or two off the log and use those to start the egg.

Hey there Chicken Man, :silly: I might just resemble them.
I did grow up in S.F. my dad's shop was right next to the haight ashbury district.

Hi GG,
Don't care for the oil/towel thing but it does work. Guess I'm just getting old.
Thanks,

The Rutland(aka BGE) cubes are available at Ace Hardware stores. A gross(144) sized box is about $10-$12. Can be ordered online also.

just get one of those weed burners. Metal and connect to one of those green propane bottles. Lights it up quickly and you can use it around the house. Burn weeds in the cement cracks. Works great. Looks different than the one you show.

Bordello,
I have two one in Florida and one in North Carolina, and I just love them. It is just to much for the mini.

:silly: Well I have a Lg. Med. Sm. and Mini. So, I guess it will work just fine.
Thanks,

Yep it will, I use a mapp for the mini or starter cubes.
I got a tank adapter at Bass Pro Shops that allowes me to use the small tanks that are for camping lanterns.
