I just bought my first BGE (Large) today after coveting my friends all summer. Any recipe suggestions for my first try? I don't have any EGGcessories yet, the local vendor was out of stock of all the popular ones.
Thanks!
Thanks!

Congratulations on your new Egg, Brad!
If you have some skewers, you could try kebabs. If you put single foods on each kebab, they will cook more evenly, like one with onions or green peppers (or together, they will cook similarly), one with chunks of beef or lamb, one with tomatoes, etc. Brush them with a vinaigrette (lemon juice in it is really good). They can cook at a moderate heat like 350° and get charred edges. Really delicious!

Welcome and congrats on the new Egg! With no accessories I assume means no plate setter either. In that case I would do any of your favorites like a pork tender loin, steak, burgers or a Spatchcock chicken just keep an eye on your internal meat temps.

Whole Chicken is always a great start. No need to spatchcock the first time. Rub it down with some spices you like and cook it at 350 until done.

Wouldn't you guys agree that the chicken should be raised a little from fire ring level? That is awfully close to the coals. What do you think?

If the chicken's not too big for the dome to close. I admit I was thinking horizontal chicken!Judy in San Diego

My first chicken, tho not my first cook, was a beer can chik on a pie plate on the grill on the fire ring. Worked well, one of the best birds I had done up to that time.
But for Newb UKBradC, buy three fire brick splits, I got mine from a contractor supply for maybe .70 a piece, and set on edge, you can raise the grill. That will make it easier to manipulate the food, and keep it a little cooler, being farther from the lump. -
Chickens will fit upright on a Large even at a raised grid level.

Make it simple and have a wonderful burger till your dealer restocks. I guess he needs to learn what to have on hand as standard equipment.
-
Keep it simple so you can mess around with temp control and not ruin an expensive piece of meat like I did.
Chicken, burgers, sausages, pork chops are all easy first cooks. -
Good suggestion w/o a platesetter and not having to set up some fire bricks rig. Chicken on the Egg is haed to beat and easy to do. Just stick it in a plate standing up after rubbing with your rub of choice and cook with a little smoke wood. 165 TO 170 degree at the coldest past of the breast. This is spatchcocked but give you some ideas. http://www.eggheadforum.com/index.php?option=com_simpleboard&func=view&id=524553&catid=1

Did anyone say chicken? It really is hard to beat and hard to mess up. Enjoy--you will not be sorry!

I did see someone post once to cook whatever you used to cook on your old grill. This will be so much better that you will convince even the harshest critic that it was worth the purchase. They may even want to buy you another BGE
