Shutdown time for the Egg

I just finished a 17 hour cook for my Pork butt and shut down the Egg about an hour ago but it is still reading about 200 degrees. Is this normal or could I have a leak? Maybe one of the infamous gasket issues?
I used to just put my Egg in the garage when it was done but have since moved it out back so I never really noticed how long it took to completely cool down. Now I need to cover it and do not want to burn the tarp.

I'm still new at this, but that seems normal to me. The thickness of the Egg will retain a lot of heat for quite some time.

Put the rain cap on top, shut the bottom vent, place the DMFT (Daisy top) into the egg, forget about a cover.

Thermal mass takes a long time to cool down!

Fastest way to cool it off is to take it apart..

After I do a troop cook all I want is a bath and a bed. I hate to admit it, but not always in that order. I take the eggs apart and let the parts cool off.. -

The only thing I can add to what the others have said is that once I know the fire is out I open it to help with the cooling. The temp outside can slow or speed up the cooling process a bit.

Can't take it apart proper without unloading the coals. -
you paid good money so that the thing would hold its heat. don't start complaining about it now... :laugh:
even when the fire is totally out it'll stay warm for hours.
no rush to move it inside. mine'
