In my last post I mentioned the local dealer in Northfield, Ohio is loaning me an XL this weekend for a pork shoulder cook-out.
My question is: How many 8 lb. shoulders can I fit on the grill - no extenders, just the OEM grill?
I will start cooking at about 6pm, Friday night and will post pics of the progress.

Danny,
I did six on the main grid two weekends ago. No problem.

just remember to light the lump in 3 or so spots. xl cooks similar to a large but does have a few different nuances. twww.ceramicgrillstore.com ACGP, Inc.

Here is the pic of the 7 I was able to get on a single grid. I did have to stand most of them on their side and I did move them around a little where they hung over the plate setter. It worked out fine in the end.

If I buy 8 at Sam's I can get them for $.99 a pound. I wonder if there will be enough lump left to do 2 batches?

I usually have plenty of lump left after pork butts but It would not hurt to add a little during intermission. Big loads have been taking me about 12-14 hours @250 degrees. Is this going to be before or after you get your new large? I have packed 5 on the large with a single grid.
