how often do you calibrate your thermometer

I'm wondering how often you calibrate your thermometer (dome that is)? I have the stock BGE thermometer that came with my large egg and I've calibrated it twice when it seemed a little off and was only off by a few degrees. I'm wondering what everyone else does? do you calibrate it on a regular basis or when you suspect something is wrong??

If it is the BGE thermometer: every month :(
If it is a Tel-tru: never after checking it once -
I did mine when my egg was first new about 4 years ago now. Check it every Thanksgiving before the turkey goes on. It has been perfect for four years straight.

Yep, once a month and gonna get some Tel Trus.
Those stock ones have been off by 30+ every time I checkem. They currently are reading 150 (cold) air temp is about 80. -
I've got 3 Tel-trus and they have never varied.

glousteau,
I just stick the thermapen in the daisy for a minute. If I see it's off, I'll adjust it. Doesn't happen often.

I've had 3 stock thermometers in 1.5 years. Once two of them went bad, I could not get them recalibrated. They would be calibrated at 212f but they stayed off below that and above that.
I need to mail order a Teltru because no one carries them locally.Knoxville, TN
Nibble Me This -
Once a month befor a low and slow cook. I took my temp gage off and attached the sprimg clip on and then shove it into the egg. It comes out easy and I can remove it if I have a large piece of meat in there and don't want to bend the probe. I close the lid then put the probe in the hole. During long cooks I will take out the dial thermometer and stick the maverick probe in the same upper hole.

Little Steven-
I just stuck my thermapen in the dasiy wheel and the
temp on the thermapen kept going up and wouldn't stop I pulled it out at 400. my BGE thermometer says 300, could it be possible that i'm of 100 or am I doing something wrong with the thermapen? -
I'd bet your BGE is off that much. Thermocouple thermometers do drift, but not more than a few degrees. If they fail, it's in either shorted or open mode, and you can tell that pretty quickly.

Jeffersonian-
Thanks for your help. It's definitely the BGE thermometer. Will be calibrating tonight.
This makes me feel much better about my boston butt disaster.
