First time with a plank. Used Alder for the Alaskan salmon. Got the Large up to 400. Cooked the salmon for 15minutes. End results was a strong wood/smoke taste and very juicy. Bad part, the planks would probably be good for one more cook if I am lucky. At $4 a pop, not inexpensive proposition.

I love salmon. Don't you love the plank? I bought 6 large cedar planks at Costco for $6. I think if you go to Lowe's and ask them, they will cut them to your precise size for alot less than what you paid, not sure if they have other types of wood though.

You are probably right. Did not know what I was getting until it came. Looks like cedar shake shingles. Hmmm, my neighbors fence.....

But I was surprised how much of the wood smell transferred to the fish in such a short time.

We used to use the plank method .... no longer. Just straight on an oiled grill .... works great. :)

This cedar plank has been used 2x after a 1/2 hr soak then with PS @ 350° for 10-12 minutes.
Hardly any signs of use which make me wonder how many times could I use this same plank . . .

Try brining your salmon. I love that. I no longer plank.

My concern with multi-use planks is the stuff that you can't see. Cedar has a very open grain and will absorb juices that can grow shtuff in there.

Agree with you and that's my concern also. Next time I'll use the other side, but still curious . . .

I love planking. If you look around, you can find smaller, thinner planks that are pretty cheap. I never use them more than once. What I like is that the plank makes even the cheaper salmon taste really good, so it offsets having to buy the $15/lb stuff.
