Feet or No Feet?

Feet definitely !!!!!
I have posted these on the forum many times and will post them here per loco_engr's request and hope they help avoid a potential problem for others. There was always a debate as to weather you needed the feet or not and I was always the one on the no feet side,,,until I went to refinish the table. Not sure how long before I had a fire or the egg just fell through the table I just know if would have happened eventually. Here are the before and after pics.

I'm just glad I caught it in time, by pure dumb luck. Here is the end result after refinishing

Thanks P'man! I think your experience with the no feet has saved alot of people tons of grief.

Nice rehab on the table.

IMHO, I believe feet should be used when the paver is laying on a flat wood surface - let's see lump burns at 1200 degrees, firebox is at the bottom of the egg, restricted air flow around the paver...However, I don't believe the feet are all that necessary when the paver and egg are sitting on a joyce/rafter set up - lots of air circulating around the paver. My 2 cents.

Great work on the refinishing Pat. I will prolly have to do that soon. I used several coats of a marine varnish for the finish thinking it would hold up better than most finishes in the elements. But the finish is not holding up like I thought it would. How is the refinish holding up and what did you use for protecting the wood?

Frank, I used 6 coats of spar urethane and so far it's been great. Really cleans up easy.

Hey Pat,
Nice job on the table and thanks for the tips on using the feet.
I have a question..Is The piece of sheet metal just a flat piece of metal or is it bent up to lift the stone off the wood.
I'll be starting my table soon.Eggfeat next Saturday.

I just built a table and used the "table nest" as feet

I understand this is a dumb overpriced eggcessory... but $30 is WELLLL worth that added protection and piece of mind after all those labor hours on the table!

I don't have a heat plate... just these feet and have not seen and burning on the wood and the egg has been used on the tazble for about the last year weekly.
