Need help!!! Lid is stuck
Sauced Up
Posts: 23
During last nights pizza cook I got a grease smell from previous cooks. After removing pizza I decided to let the temp rise to 650 for 30 minutes hoping to clean.
First time to go to high temp in approximately 25 cooks since gasket replacement. I have been very careful not to overheat, as I have replaced the gasket twice since December 08 purchase of my XL.
First failure I was told by dealer that my egg was possibly one that BGE had with bad felt issue. I replaced with another felt that did not hold up either. After contacting BGE I received the new nomex. Each replacement I cleaned very well and applied with the 3M glue as recommended.(The cleaning not a small feat in itself)
This morning I tried to open to inspect and found the dome is stuck shut. Sense my frustration?
Any ideas as to how to go about opening without damaging the egg?

Try dropping a lit fire starter down the dome. as the egg warms the lid should loosen.

Yes, go with a fire starter, get some heat in there.
I have burned 2 sets of gaskets off my xl as well I just bought a BGE small and now they are off.
My point is forget gaskets, you will pull your hair out in bloody clumps.
My newish XL has been gasket less now for a month after burning off the high temp Nomex gaskets.
It works no different, except I don't worry anymore about high temp cooks, or gaskets hanging by webs of glue when I open the egg.
You don't need gaskets. -
Thanks for your help. I will try that.

If the firecube doesn't work, tie it behind your truck with a chain and drag it down the road at 45 to 55 MPH and that should get it. Hope this helps.

Just a joke. All in fun. Dont really drag it down the road.

How about a hair dryer or heat gun down thru the top.

The next time you glue your gasket DO NOT use the 3M. Use Permatex High Temp RTV Silicone Gasket Maker #26B instead and your gasket will never again fall off!!!
