Gasket question
smoky b
Posts: 648
I have had my egg 8 months now and cook on it all the time. Higher temp cooks during the week and low and slow on the weekends. My gasket is pretty crusty in the middle and I noticed a little smoke coming out of the back during a Trex dwell on Saturday. I haven't noticed any trouble maintaining temps yet. Should I wait to replace until I need to? I have heard how some guys keep cooking even without a gasket b/c they can maintain temps. Thoughts?

Smoky B,
Keep cooking guy. Gasket or lack thereof has no effect on temp control.

I just did a 7 bone prime rib yesterday on my gasket less XL.
It kept the temp at 225 for 3.5 hours, then another 2 hours after removal and close down.
I have given up chasing my tail as far as replacing gaskets.
I can now concern my self with my real job of drinking a cool lager whilst casually observing the single nurse gardening next door.
Much much better than worrying about opening the lid only to find gaskets hanging down held up only by webs of melting glue. -
Good for another 4 years...
