Where can i find a quality thermometer . id like a probe type i can leave in while doing chicken, turkey,brisket etc and an instant read type maybe for other aplications

I use a thermopen for the instant read. they cost around 80 dollars, however, there are others that are less expensive but propbably not as a responsive as the thermopen.

For longer cooks such as briskets and butts or any cook that I do not want to open the dome for a long period of time I use use DigiQ11. There website is www.thebbqguru.com.

I also have a alclad that I use sometime.

Larry...Believe it or not, my "go to" probe thermometer continues to be a Pyrex model, which you can pick up at Wal Mart or Target for less than $15. I have only cooked the probe wire once....FYI..they don't do too well when left in direct fire.

But my chicken didn't fare too good that night, either.... :woohoo: Hoestly, I have used my Pyrex for years! (and only had the one mishap!)
Also note, for long overnighters and such, yes, the DigiQ, etc. But for basic evening cooks...the Pyrex just can't be beat for accuracy, dependability, and price. Just my 2 cents!

If you are not going to go with the maverick that has dual probes and high and low alarms, just get the cheapest you can find. I have several, and I find they all work as well as the next one.

Thermapen and don't look back! They were selling their "older" model for a discount-I found I didn't need a waterproof one. Also, the maverick as others have mentioned-works great!

I'm with you LC, my $15 Target thermometer works just fine, much better than the Maverick did. But a Thermapen is an indispensable tool IMHO. -RP

This one gets better reviews than the Maverick, which gets plus/minus reports of its abilities.
