OK this is copied and pasted from Bacchus' post last night:
Rules
• Must use Big Green Egg (only 1, any size). No other heat source permitted for any ingredient.
• No accessories allowed except your favorite set of tongs, meat thermometer, & aluminum foil. (No Guru, plate setter, etc)
• All Ingredients (including mystery) must be plated as a single dish(entree, appetizer, or dessert)
• Mystery Ingredient & mystery spice/herb must play a prominent role in the dish.
• Must be prepared July 24th - 25th
• Submission should include two pictures, one of the food on the egg with current major Newspaper in view. The second plated. Please submit by 11:30PM July 25th. New thread will be provided at approx 2:00pm for submissions and those who wish to “vote” on their favorite.
• Winner announced 7:00 – 9:00pm Sunday 26th
Must include the following:
1. Mystery Ingredient: Chicken thighs
2. Mystery Aromatic: basil, fresh or dried
3. a squash of some type
so what ever you fix must be all egged and have these three items as the mains.
I thought we should keep this simple to start. I hope some new eggers join in and give this a try. we are all on an even field here you can stuff or debone and what ever your heart desires! I know that some where in this world it is not raining 24/7 and gardens are giving fresh herbs and such LOL not here in Maine.... so the gloves are off and lets hit the recipe books and google!

Major Newspaper - who subscribes to a newspaper any more - anyone use the internet for this stuff.
What time zone? My 2pm isn't everyone's 2pm.
Aluminum foil :woohoo: (needs to be here twice).

i gotta use a squash???!??! THATS NOT FOOD, THATS WHAT FOOD EATS!!!!!!! geeze...what am i gonna do wit one of those big turds???? dang. . .does it count if i say the chicken ate it before i killed it for its thighs???
-
Wow what a build up.
Sounds like I'm following the wide world federation of Eggdome triple belt title match.
Now I have to take my lap top on my road trip so I can stay tuned in.
Let the games begin  -
Can cast iron pot or wok be used? Spider?
-
what part of "no accessories" don't you understand?? you got simply cook it on your grid on the fire ring direct.. . .that's the whole simple idea behind this. ..DUH
-
   Do cows eat squash?? the steak could be reincarnated green stuff or maybe I could use the squash as a plate setter will that count?? Hmmmm lots of options
 -
LOL...boy, that would sure be circumventing the "no accessories" rule wouldn't it!! heeee
-
OK we can cut the newspaper, I think the honor system will work here. I hope anyways LOL it has been suggested that we do a starch. to add rice, pasta and such is kind of hard on the egg with the no pot rule....
so I can redo this with a meat, a vegi, a starch and a herb. and yes Max you are going to have to cook more than MEAT! :silly: -
NO PAT.... simple enough?
-
what if we squash the thighs. That would count....right
-
Thanks for the clarification. Never done one of these before, and I admit I can be a bit ignorant at times.
-
Guess I'll have to make that cook for the neighbors Man they're really gonna hate me now
-
Honor system is great. How about the cook picks the starch for some flexibility.LBGE Katy (Houston) TX

no problem. ..someone was bound to ask the "hear's your sign" question. ...you just happened to be the poor guy that did it and took the proverbial pie in the face! :woohoo:
-
holy crap.
why not say "let's see what you can do with a chicken thigh and some basil"
hahaha
let people present a plate that has carrots on it, cooked in a wok on the egg, with a sauce of whatever, as losing as the chix and basil is the obvious feature.ed egli avea del cul fatto trombetta -Dante -
damn...garden has been giving me some great sweet basil, and just produced a nice summer squash...but I will be camping in NH this weekend heading to Storyland with the kids, and I'm not lumping my large up there....man I need a small bad....hope the wife agrees.
-
do i gotta do a "here's your sign" for you too!!!??? NO ACCESSORIES!!!! . . its gotta be cooked direct on the grid ....that's the whole point of this little exorcise . . .so even poor old me, if i want to play, i have to cook a stupid squash, direct on the grid some how...
-
aluminum foil is allowed...there is your barrier, pot and cover all in one....
-
You want a throwdown! Here's one... I already know eggcactly what I'm going to do with these ingredients. And it's never been done on an egg before. Muhahahaha.
Good Luck All
Doug -
Always sucks to be that guy. BTW. I tried your crabcakes from DPs website. Good stuff man!
-
Yah, this runs the risk of becoming the "Most creative use of tin foil" contest. But I'm all for it.
Doug -
LOL . .sure does!!! . .
hey, glad you liked the crab cakes!!. . .one of my first photo shoots (you can tell!!)...haven't made those in a long time. ..i should do em again. . . -
fine.
i haven't followed the thirty iterations and additions and amendments to this "throwdown" constituion. hahaha
just saying all the newspaper and other stuff is just over the top....
"here's a thigh and some basil" "cook it direct" "make sure they are the main ingredient"ed egli avea del cul fatto trombetta -Dante -
Anyone have the recipe foe Squash jerkey? I will be at the beach, might be able to sneak in the cook.(squash, basil, chicken thighs(hmmmm;)
GOOD EATS AND GOOD FRIENDS
DALE -
No spider or DO.
However, aluminum foil is OK. So 40 layers of aluminum foil = a Dutch Ooven sort of.
Gives me an idea...
GG -
Only you could think of this one Julie. I'm going to pass on this but I'll be someones sous chef if they want. :woohoo:
-
