Hello All,
Well today is father's day and I got my large big green egg. Even made the table out of cedar for it. Do I have to cure the BGE the first time I light it before cooking? Thank you. :cheer:

Thank you

I lit mine the first time intending to only play around with temperature control ..... then all of a sudden, there were rib eyes and potatoes on it !!! ENJOY

I would only cure it if it has a problem. If it's cold, it has a problem and you need to heat it up and cook food on it!

Welcome, try to keep your first several cooks under 400F to allow the gasket to get set.

The ceramic will do fine under just about any circumstance. But you might want to keep an eye on it. If the vents are wide open, the time between 300 degrees and 800 can be less than 5 minutes. Bringing out a tray of burgers to an Egg with a blu jet coming out the top can give you pause.

To be this and make sure you burp it before opening are two of the basic rules of happy egging

I showed a couple friends that on Friday night at 3 am before a quick tri-tip cook    :silly:

I was trying to be super safe and cooked 5 low temp cooks before pizza today. No problem until today when the gasket fell off. Bummer.
