Memphis, fire bricks can be used to provide a fire deflector to allow you to cook indirect. The first thing you learn is fire bricks come in different sizes. The standard brick is about 2"x4"x8". There is a split which is about 1"x4"x8". These are more useful. Some people use them to form a support for a second grill which also allwos a place for a drip pan. Take three bricks and lay them flat on the bottom grill to give you a surface that is 12"x8". Take two additional bricks and stand them on edge to give you a support for your second grill. |____| . This will allow for about 3" of clearnace between the top of the bricks and the second grill which is plenty of space for a drip pan and puts the second grill just above the lip of the bottom of the BGE. Some folks wrap their bricks in foil just to keep them clean but there is really no need to do that.
