My wife feels that I spend too much time on this forum. I tell her I am learning a lot. She thinks I am addicted to this but for me this is an education. Do any of you people have the same issue with your spouse ? It is amusing as well.

    Funny question!

I feel the opposite. I used to post regularly (well fairly) many years back but after having 2 kids and a total commute time on a work day of just under 3 hours I don't feel I spen ENOUGH time on the Forum.

True test for you and the wife is if she thinks your cooking improves from what you read and learn. Otherwise maybe you are spending more time than you need reading posts.

My wife, we have been married a month short of 38 years when I am on here she gets the TV controller. Bonus!!!

And I got her her own computer.

  • I used to give mine a hard time about always being on facebook. The other day she said, "The egghead forum is for you what facebook is for me." .... Fair enough.

My wife thinks we're all nuts. I admit that I spend too much time lurking on the forum, but I agree, it could be ALOT worse! It's not porn, I'm not spending money, there IS no other woman and, as Seattle Todd says, it's improving my cooking! The big question for me though is, what is it about smoke flavor that appeals to so many. I now have droves of friends scoping out mt house on the weekends, looking for a sign of smoke, to see if I might be cooking! If one or two are invited, the next thing I know, I have twenty people in my kitchen!! Anyone else have this trouble?? Anyone else had to lie or egg in stealth mode?

I can't tell my friends that I am making pizzas. If I do I find myself making pizzas for delivery!

My response is always "At least it's not drugs..." Most times she agrees and goes back to what she's doing.

Hehe...that's part of being an egghead, Gary. I learn something here everyday--new recipes, new ideas for what to cook during the week/weekend, new techniques, tips, and tricks...

The main thing is that people (generally) don't bite your head off on this forum, which is really unlike many of the places out on the interwebs. Smarty-pants, rude, inconsiderate, profane, vulgar, condescending...I'll stop now.

I am thankful for the behind-the-scenes webmasters and moderators (I also manage scores of servers and farms for a certain computer company based in Round Rock, TX...) I am also very thankful to have met with, talked with, and cooked alongside some of the greatest people you'll ever know--all of whom share the same drive and passion to create masterpieces on their eggs.

No, you're not the only one...

Rita used to tell people "Most wives have to worry about their husband looking at internet porn. Not mine he's looking at MUFFINS"

"I could go look at porn dear!!"
  • I'm not married anymore (not because of the forum), but when I was, my wife would get angry when I was on the forum every night. I used to tell her I was looking at porn, but she just would say "no you're not, you're on that BLEEP Big Egg website again."

Last Thursday I made hamburgers on the Egg. When (She) was not looking, I put a butt on the Egg, hooked him up for a all night cook and went to bed. The next morning she got up, went to work. I went outside and retrieved my butt, and put him in the basement frige for the day. She had no idea that I cooked that butt.
One of my friends now calls me a (closet) Egger :woohoo:

    Thanks for getting me "Hooked"

    Bob,
thats funny right there and I don't care who you are.

My wife got on me last night about being on the forum. She said for Father's Day she was thinking of ordering me some "Egghead" gear but then thought she would only be encouraging me
I told her if it wasn't for this site, The egg would be just another grill sittin on the deck getting used once a week. She then realized she would back off since she has not been cooking as much lately B)

She's so weird about it. Sometimes I think she would be happier if I WERE going to the other sites. I think it's because I keep wanting to buy stuff for my Eggs and I REALLY want a freezer!!!
  • ;) my hubby and son used to think that way...now they enjoy eating my offerings too much to even complain--they just smile and hand me the camera when I get too distracted :woohoo:
