Is it okay to light your egg with a chimney?

I don't have a weed burner and I already had the chimney, so I've been using that to light my egg for the last year. On another forum, some people were saying this is not a good idea because the ceramic could crack. Am I doing it wrong using the chimney?

I pefer the smaller MAPP torch. A very good one with the gas is only $45. but you can find them as low as $20. at the Depot, Lowes or any hardware store.

You can use a chimney, just watch you don't let that hot chimney hit your gasket.

The other folks evidently don't know eggs or know what the speak of. Further, the egg has a life time warranty.

Using a chimney works well as you already know. When I am cooking on multiple eggs at times I will get a 1qt sauce pan and scoop some lump from one hot egg to the other unlit eggs, a green chimney starter of sorts.

MAPP is good, however, I don't like getting sparks burning holes in my clothes and sparks and resulting soot on the outside of the egg.

I like using paper towel & oil or alcohol to light the eggs. It seems to take as much time to get the lump in the chimney going as it does the get the lump in the egg going.

Paper towel & oil seems to light the egg as quickly as MAPP.
