Louisville, KY places to go?

I am heading to a client site (UofL) in two weeks and was wondering what you guys might recommend, in terms of restaurants and places to go... Not sure I am going to have much of a chance to go anywhere, but I was hoping to do one fun thing during that time...

    Hey Anna,
    there's a Shaker Village there...somewhere, that's pretty interesting. The other thing...personally I would do...again...Go visit one of the thorougbred farms. It is totally amazing at the $$$ that are boarded....and the whole concept of TB breeding. Really interesting. Claiborne farms in Versaille, I think. You do need a reservation.

    Not so far... I haven't approached my local dealer (not the one that I bought my egg from, he is too small). Adcock Pool & Spas is the one here where I live. I am wanting to put a pool in (not this year b/c of the economic thing), so maybe I can get them to do something...

    Most of the thoroughbred farms are near Lexington. 80m away.. Churchill will still be open and there will be races during the day. Downtown is pretty cool at night, 4th st live...several blocks closed off to traffic with a ton of bars, restaurants, music, etc...there's a minor league baseball park downtown right on the river that is pretty nice, there is KY Derby Museum, I think there is still a steamboat on the river, there are casinos, could go on but dont know what your interests are..Louisville is a pretty cool city with lots to do...do a search on the internet and I think you'll surely find something to your liking....

    When I lived in the ville' some years ago I liked the Brown Hotel downtown and their famous Hot Brown. It was written up in Gourmet Magazine. Another old fixture in Louisville is Hasenours. They feature a sauerbraten that is world class. There will probably be alot of great restaurants on Shelbyville Rd (US60) around Oxmoor Center. Downtown is great with lots to do and see. The same can be said of the UofL Campus area. Enjoy and they pronounce it looahvul!

    Churchill Downs is a must do. It's really fun to play the ponies and take in the atmosphere. My wife use to bet by the colors the jockies were wearing. Rumors in Middletown is a great place for wings. St Mathews is a cool place to visit and eat. Captains Quarters is/was a good place to eat on the river. Louisville is a great city and you will enjoy your visit. have fun and be safe. Tom

    If you enjoy seafood and a great view, you'll love the Kingfish Restaurant on River Road near Zorn Avenue. The whole Northern wall of the building is glass, and it overlooks the Ohio River.

    I was just there last week, and went to Kingfish. I'd been there before, as a child and had fond memories of it. We stopped there when we passed through on vacation when I was a child, because it was someplace Dad remembered from his childhood growing up in Louisville.

    Unfortunately, I was pretty disappointed, eating there as an adult. It's basically a glorified Red Lobster. Fried Fried Fried. I did get the grilled whitefish, and it was so over-cooked it was inedible. The hushpuppies were very good, though. And if you're an oyster fan, I hear the rolled oysters are good.

    The view is very nice, though.

    You've mentioned our favorite places - including Kingfish. Oysters are GREAT! Another place to visit - where we take our out-of-state family for a tour - is Louisville Slugger. We have fun - and come home with a mini-bat!
