I was cooking pizza in my large egg and I left the lid open a little to long and the fire flamed up. When I went to use my egg again the lid was stuck shut. Any tips to get it back open again? Or do I need to pry it open?

If you can get a sharp knife or razor knife in between the 2 gaskets, you can most likely "carefully" cut them back apart..doesn't always work, but I have seen it done..

You probably toasted your gaskets.
You might try putting a starter cube in throught the vent and see if a little heat will help it open.
If that doesn't work, you probably will need to use a thin knife blade to cut it open.
Whichever, your gasket is toast, but you can cook most things without it. -
Slip a lit starter cube in through the draft door, don't have anything on top. That should get your coal lit and I'm guessing it will open around 400 degrees. -RP

If he can cleanly seperate the 2 halves I wouldn't necessarilly say that the gasket is "toast"

do NOT pry near the handle location top and bottom in the front, there is a weak section that will chip out on you if you do.fukahwee maineyou can lead a fish to water but you can not make him drink it

You're most probably gonna have to pry it open very carefully... It happened to me once with the lump on fire... it wouldnt budge even near 700°F until we bumbed it a little with a 2by4....
cheers! -

For some (newbie) reason, I decided to clean mine one time by cranking it up as hot as it could go.
Next day, it wouldn't open.
I ended up using a metal scraper (used for drywall). I wedged it in on a couple spots.
Needless to say, I ordered a Rutland, which still has yet to be installed.
