I have one in my indoor (traditional) kitchen, and one in my outdoor kitchen, and one with my competition nsupplies. I sure hope that they are worth it. :laugh:

There are several options to pick up a Thermapen. Looking at the Thermoworks site there are some options.

What most of us have is the Super-Fast Thermapen. However, there is a new Thermapen which has the same specifications however, the tip is a plug in and optional probes are available.

There is also the Mini Handheld Thermocouple (MTC) which looks like it is a little less money. Thirdeye has some of these. I have not seen any negative posts about the MTC. Hopefully someone will jump in and share their feelings on the MTC.

In order to get a Thermapen there are several options also.

Mollyshark is one of the favorite sources here on the forum.

The Naked Whiz site has an online store, I have seen the Thermapen on there.

Of course, Thermoworks direct, probably more expensive than either of the two above sources.

Several of the dealers carry Thermoworks products as well as other online sources.

One thing to check out is to call Thermoworks and ask about a reconditioned Thermapen or any reconditioned products mentioned above. At one point in time a reconditioned Super-Fast Thermapen could be had for under $50 - you just need to call.

There are some look-alike products out there - don't bite make sure you get a Thermoworks product.

My thermapen was one of the best accessories I have ever purchased and I would do it again in a heart beat.

Ya pays what ya get for. Call Thermopen and get a refurbed Thermapen and save a few bucks.

I have the MCT and it works great. You get a more reach with the Therapen but the MTC is moisture resistant. I have a bad habit of leaving things outside by my egg so I went with the MTC for the Moisture resistance and I like the fact that you can by multiple probes for it. It usualy runs ten bucks cheaper than the thermapen.

Looks like some nice options.

It is important the probe has a Fast-Read and the accuracy is in very tight tolerance.

The corded models look great but they probably will require two hands. Some times the heat in the egg is extreme and one wouldn't want to "spring" a thermometer onto the grid or into the lump - just a thought.

The probe that is included in them is the probe similar to the one on the regular super fast thermapen, which responds 3-4 seconds.

I kind of like the big IR one as I could also check the egg temperature in various places plus who knows what else I'll find around the house, the car, the garage.

I picked a Remote IR thermometer from Harbor Freight on sale for about $36 or so. One IR has a long flex neck and the other looks like the 'gun' hand held on the Thermoworks site. Both read within 5° of each other.

Orange glowing lump in the egg read 1950° & the brick wall read 13° - the cook was cold.

I really like the look of the MTC. I'm not sure why you wouldn't buy this one seeing as you can buy a tip that gets the job done in 2 seconds and totals cheaper than the thermapen.
