is there an automatic watering device for multiple earthboxes when you are out of town?
I have seen a few threads but not sure they have been discussed.
Any ideas?
Possibly a diy?
thanks

Get a water timer, same idea as a light timer except for water, a pressure reducer for drip irrigation and 1/4" drip irrigation tubing and drip nozzles. I got my supplies at wally world, but I have seen similar supplies at Home Depot and Lowes.
HTH -
can you give my an idea on how much time unit should be set for or is it trial and error? I guess the time can be measured in mins and not hours.
My dad has the boxes and i would like to help him out long distance.(Hes about 1000 miles from here) -
I'm planning to just put an inexpensive timer on the faucet and run the water hose into the water tube. I think I can partially open the faucet then adjust the time on the timer based on how long that slow flow takes to come out the overflow hole. As it gets hotter and the plants get bigger, obviously I will have to readjust the length of the flow or open the faucet more. It's a trial and error thing but should not be difficult since things don't change very rapidly. It seems a lot less complicated than all the drip tubing, etc. (and less expensive than the system sold on the website).
I have used drip irrigation when I had several open, raised beds several years ago and they worked great for that. -
The timer that I have has several settings, 10 minutes, 15 mins, 30 mins 1,2 hours of watering time as well as how often it comes on, daily, every other day, every third day. It is kind of trial and error. The nozzles are rated 1,2 and 4 gals per hour.
