Decided to check the factory BGE thermometer this afternoon. So into some boiling water it goes. I had to adjust it about 60 degrees to read 212. Then into an ice bath it goes. It's been reading 95 for 10 minutes. Should I just split the difference until I can get a real one?

Can I get a link for a thermometer source?

Why are you worried about the lower temp accuracy? Set it for boiling water and call it good. Mine hangs up around 80 degrees regardlous of actual outside temps.

Good outfit.

Agree with Mr Civil!
I just bought a new one and it was spot on in the boiling water. I'm not cooking much at 32 degrees that I can think of.
Of course the TelTru are really nice thermos

$ eggs and not one was correct. That's why the boiling water test.
If my thermometers go out I will change out as stated above.
However, I don't expect they will go out.
As for the ice water test, these thermometers are relative cheap thermometers. More importantly, are you going to cook or cook often much lower than 190° dome (that's probably about 160° - 170°) great temp.
If it bugs you get the tel tru.

Only perform the boiling water test, not the ice water. Set it to 212 and you are good.

Set for 212.
And no I don't cook any more than the rest of you at 32 degrees. Just checking to see how accurate it is.
Obviously it isn't up to the BGE quality standards that I would expect. It's 2009 and thermometers should work.
Thinkin the after market unit would be the way to go. Especially because I cook 95% of my food on it.
