Had a hankering for steak. So with the reducing ring for the XL I thought I'd give it a shot.
Start with the ring about half full of lump. Light it and then add about another hand full or so.
Top it off with the CI grid from the MED.
Wait for it to get hot.
Add the wife's Hereford filet
Wait 45 seconds and then rotate. Wait another 45 secs and then flip.
Add my Hereford ribeye and repeat the process.
Once all the searing is done, add the flip ring and the 21.5" grid and get those steaks up to roasting height.
Roast at 475*
Then pull the ribeye at 125*. OOPS too busy taking photos, temp got away from me by four degrees.
Let the wifes' finish to 135* as she likes hers' a little more med well. Allow then to rest and serve with some twice baked and a ceasar salad. MMmmMMMMM
Almost forgot the beverage of choice.
Probably the best steak I have cooked yet. Not sure if it was the method, BGE, or the anticipation of a much wanted steak; but it was one of my better cooks. Wife was extremely happy too.

Definetly a keeper. Thanks for the kind words.

One ringy dingy. Two ringy dingy.

Mike,
Do you think a large CI grate & matching basket would be better and would that size fit?
With some of the new stuff Tom is coming out with, in a way, it makes me kind of wish I had an XL.

Great idea on the set up and the steaks look great.
-
Mike, I have the hanger in my XL and put the large pizza stone on that and it covers the lump reducer. Great indirect cook.
-
Great pics and great cook!
Gotta have that Abita beer in the pics ! :woohoo: :woohoo: :woohoo: -
I would sure to get one of those rings.

very cool pictures....thanks for the kind intro.
I'm digging the lump reducing ring for grilling in the xl. Really adds flexibility for grilling. I'd sell my large if I did not need it for Ceramic Grill Store Stuff. twww.ceramicgrillstore.com ACGP, Inc. -
& great talking with ya!!!!

SHHH don't tell the wife, but I'm thinking of selling the MED. Don't need two of them.
-
Ya you too, (while laughing, thinking about Aquaman with the torch)

Tom should have them in production in a few weeks. Just a little more R&D left.
-
Life is good with a few cold ones.
-
I did the same thing last week. MMMMM Lasagna Good.
-
Hope yours come out good. Post a few photos, let us all share in your victory.

I'm not sure if the LGE setup would work better or not. This way has alot of flexibility with it. I'm thinking of tryiing to stack the lump on the outside of the ring and lighting in four places and see what that does. Might make for an indirect cook without any added ceramics. Just place your food in the center, maybe with a raised configuration. Gotta love the versatility

Pretty neat idea, that may really work well. If you do try that, make sure you share the results/pictures.

Interesting pictures and great looking steak.
I have one of Tom's spider rigs from my Lg, but have yet to buy the CI grid that fits it. I will be at Waldorf, so I think I see a new grill toy in my future. -
Very cool pics Mike. I also have the reducing ring for my XL, and I have used it with my hanger and Lg CI grill. Puts the meat a little higher, still sears well at that height. Great item Tom, thx for op to test.
