Now that I've been doing lots of cooks on my LBGE, including sides, it has become obvious to me that I have a need (want?) for a second egg. I have a lot of difficulty timing the sides and the main course and keeping everything warm, but not overcooked, especially if the main course requires a cook temp drastically different from the sides.
Example: Tonight we are having friends over to enjoy their first-ever BGE meal. I bought some great fresh grouper filets at the fish monger's truck and plan to blacken them. That requires getting the grill and the cold mass of the 14" cast iron skillet to 600* +, and maintaining it there for 45 min. or so to make sure the ceramic and CI are up to temp. The skillet takes up the entire grid, so there really isn't any room for sides to cook alongside, and what else can you cook at 600* without vaporizing it?
My plan is to cook the fish, foil in a pan, remove the skillet (hot!) and then wilt some Romaine hearts on the grid. I think they will cook so fast that the fish will not dry out or get cold - HATE to eat cold fish!
The Princess is starting to seem (mildly) open to the need for a second EGG (small) for the sides.
Anyway, it is completely rationalized above, so why would she object?
You know, Mother's Day is around the corner....... :silly:

I love my combo.... Large and Small. I utilize both in many cooks, and was frustrated as you seem to be when I only had my large.
-
Next thing you will be asking for is a larger patio/deck, then an outdoor kitchen and then a video camera and visits to multiple Eggfests, and taking up your work time checking the Forum and concocting new recipes and so on. And maybe a visit to the Chicken Ranch.
Been there, done that.

haha. "The Princess" Made me laugh. I think we all have one.

I don't think it will fit in my Easter Basket... :(

That's what I'm talking about !!!

Already got the "Reading the Forum too much" issue.
The outdoor kitchen is incorporated in the screened porch addition which will be starting soon (told the cabinetmaker to allow for a new small egg - shh).
Egggfests are on the lists, but so far they have conflicted with previous plans. :(
A dude-ranch visit to the Chicken Ranch might be in order .    I LOVE horseback riding and think a cattle drive (chicken drive) might be fun. :silly:  -
Tell the Princess that she is not being sensitive to your needs as a man. I sense you are a person in need. I felt the same urges back in November when my need for a small to complement my large were not being met and said I would have to find someone to satisfy that yearning and I hoped it would be a BGE dealer. She said she didn't care who satisfied my mania as long as it didn't cost anything. I bought one anyway. The crap I had to take faded by Naked Whiz Turkey day.
Don't tell the Princess that this idea came from me! Keep it on the down low. I have to maintain some plausible deniability. -

It got MUCH worse after she made a "girl's trip" and ran in the inaugural Disney Princess Half Marathon recently!

Good thing she doesn't read the Forum, or My goose would be cooked ! :woohoo: -
To sorta quote a line from Field of Dreams ...
"If you build it, the eggs will come!"

I have the same concerns. I'm thinking about purchasing a small to go with my large. I was hoping to purchase the small at an egg fest.

 Eggdiction does progress just that way!

That was exactly how I got permission for my small egg. There just wasn't room on the large for everything. Good luck.

  I had the same issue and went ahead and got the large/small combo.
BEST thing I ever did!! GO ahead and pull the trigger, I promise your princess will love you more in the long run. -
Just remember when a woman says "whatever" She is NOT giving permission. I do just as you said. I have been using one for the meat and the other for the sides. I find myself doing multiple Egg cooks more and more often. Friends look at me as if I'm nuts. "Why two grills" they ask. I don't know how I am going to justify the next Egg.

LOL some of us have a "prince" But after this egg fest I think I could have about what ever I wanted. I even caught him checking out the XL LOL
