I have a large but want a small or medium to travel with me camping, tailgating, other events. Does anyone use a medium as a travel egg? Is it worth the extra size and weight? I know a small would be fine, but wonder if the medium is a pain to lug around? The extra grill space of the medium would be great, not sure worth the extra trouble.

We have the small and the med to take camping. last time we took the med we decided we really needed the large with everyone that showed up to check it out LOL. we take them in the truck and we have a travel box that some one on here told us about to pack them in. then take it out flip it over and it is a stand to hold them.
you can see it at work here. the egg is loaded with "the chicken" ummmmmm -
We take our small camping and we will soon have a mini to go with it. What cracks my wife up is all of the other stuff we take with the Eggs to support our Egging habit....

I'm afraid the small wouldn't be big enough to cook for everyone when we travel. Small would be easier to haul around, but the medium will be worth the extra size.

What is the top/bottom of your box made of? Is it painted plywood?

I used the small for almost every meal last summer while camping for a week. I cooked for 8 people. It does take some planning but it is doable. The mini will get a workout also.
It is just easier to move the small for me...
here is my post from last summer

they are all a pain to lug around. i take the large and leave my small at home. with two people there isnt that much of a difference between carrying a large or medium with one of those pot lifters.fukahwee maineyou can lead a fish to water but you can not make him drink it
