Follow Up To The Egg On A Sailboat Post

I am not a fan of fire on a boat, but I am sure some will do it. If I was going to do that, could I not set the egg up so that instead of the bottom vent being centered, it could be on the side, or even the back? If a spark pops out it would hopefully land in the water and not in the boat. Granted, even if that works, it does not stop all the potential fire hazards of having a fire on a boat.

They are very popular on boats. It must be like a status symbol or something.

Semolina Pilchard,
I have had boats all my life. Several sailboats and more powerboats. My experience with sail just screams "bad idea". Alaskan C has an egg on her powerboat but it seems pretty well lashed down. Too scary, fire at sea is a nightmare. I had a rail mount gas grill on my last boat but I wouldn't even think about a real fire.

In all my years on the water I have seen many grills on Blow boats. I do not recall any of them being used except at the marina.
-
I concur, I am just thinking of a safeR way for the people who are going to do it anyway.

Get a Mini and go to the beach

Why not just let their insurance agent tell them that they can go suck wind with their stupid idea?Re-gasketing America one yard at a time.

I'm tempted to get the Delecto 'land' model for searing meat before cooking them on the egg.canuckland -
Forgive me for trying to help someone do something in a safer manner that they seem to be intent on doing regardless. But seriously, can someone tell me if a dome can be put on at a 90 or 180 degree angle? If I remember there are some pins on the band, and some indentions on the egg.

I was at one of the Marinas in Gulf Shores, Alabama last summer and it was quite a sight to see 10 or so very nice charter fishing boats lined up, all with Large eggs on them.

Some Knuckle head will see the 2x4 pieces and cut up a bunch of treated 2x4's to use. Got to love that arsenic taste
-
Pieces of 2 x 4's????? Treated lumber???? What in the world are you talking about????
-
Watch the Video and you will get it. This grill uses small pieces of wood. Treated wood contains arsenic.

Eddie, I suppose an idiot can put treated wood in BGE too because neither BGE nor Woodflame BBQ is idiot-proof.canuckland

Very true, but not recommended. A lot of people just don't know.

you can spin the bands any way you want now, only the older bands had the pins, the newer ones dont have that anymore. personally i dont see too much problem with it if its used as a grill in your presence, probably not the best idea for overnights while sleeping. for what its worth, all the old lobster boats in maine had woodstoves aboard. it would be pretty difficult to light my down east lobster boat on fire from the fiberglass, the gas tank vent would probably be more a concern but they do make open flame cookers and heaters for boats.fukahwee maineyou can lead a fish to water but you can not make him drink it
