Please explain what a wiggle stick is and I assume it is used for the fire grate. Is that correct?

It's a metal stick with a 90 deg bend on one end.
It is used to poke up through the fire grate to clear the holes of small chunks of lump -
Do you buy it or is it easily made?
-
Yes!!
That choice is yours. Lawn Ranger makes them. I use a large meat turner.
I have a coat hanger I stretched out for my small eggs -
Celtic Wolf- you have convinced me, a coat hanger it is. The cheaper the better.

Here ya go, I used an old gasser rotisserie rod, bent it till it l ooked right. Poke it up from the bottom of the fire grate. I use it on every cook, just before lighting.
Works pretty good.

IMHO, coat hangers are a little lightweight and I wouldn't want anything with paint on it. Any metal rod that you can bend will do. Of course you can buy any thickness rod you want at a hardware store, but I used the rod from an old political yard sign. Just the right thickness, and the price is right. Look around your garage, you probably have something that will work.

Mine is just a piece of bent stainless rod with a wooden handle. Essential egg tool.

I am sure a coat hanger would work fine, but you can probably pick up a 1/4" metal rod at a hardware store and have someting that is easier to use and keep track of. Could use a piece of all-thread too.

Got my Wiggle stick from Thirdeye and wish I had gotten it long ago. His is made out of S/S and looks good on the table.
I did the bent coat hanger trick for a few years and used to get upset about the ugly rusting thing on my table.
Use my wiggle stick at the first sign of too large a temp drop.
