valiant effort, something I wouldn't even attempt, but other than the slight breakage it looks like it tasted great, & as my grandfather always used to say, "it all ends up in the same place anyway"

I like my bread on a separate plate anyway. :P Looks good buddy. I'll try to call you later, I might have a problem with the Saturday fishing. Wife has a big birthday that weekend and working on a surprise party for her. If I can set that for Friday I'm good to go Saturday and Sunday.

Looks great!
Son's favorite...he just walked in and thought we'd made YOUR POST without him :silly: silly boy!
Looks like a GREAT meal -
Yeah, life can be tough sometimes.

It looks good Steven, I know what you mean about limiting my picture taking!
Ross -
well it still looks good. was this your first try at it?
-
I bet it still tasted good. It looks like it tore right on a seam that shows in the first pic. I'm betting it didn't slow anyone down one bit.

how did you make the duxelles and foie gras
i would like to trye a mini one in a few weeksfukahwee maineyou can lead a fish to water but you can not make him drink it -
I bought the foie gras as pate.
The duxelles, I sauteed shallots and garlic in butter (a lot of butter) Pulsed button, shitake and oyster mushrooms in batches in the food processor. Added fresh thyme and parsley and simmered that with the shallot mix until the liquid was gone. Added a cup of brandy and flambeed.Steve

Todd,
It wasn't a seam, they were on the bottom. Norma was respnsible for cutting the vents and she may have run the knife across there by accident. I believe where I went wrong was not putting it outside after the wrap to freze the pastry up a bit. I cooked it at 400 and should have gone to 450*.
I made king crab and snow crab claw cakes an hour and a half earlier and wine was involved :pinch:

Mike,
No, first time on the egg. Too rich to do it a lot but I wll do it once more to get it right.

Yeah,
I can only get it in the city usually but my butcher started carrying it. Two slices in a sealed packace, if you sliced a hockey puck into eight, thet would be the thickness. $40.00 for two packets.

Thanks Ross,
I told her we weren't having company anymore if that rule stays in place.

Rich,
For $120. worth of ingredients I was looking for the wow factor. I could have had less to drink.

Desert Oasis Woman,
I agree about the duxelles and foie gras. I remember stike saying in a post that he could skip the beef and just eat that.

Hey, if a mistake "HAS" to happen, then that's the kind you want. Haha. You'd better hope Norma doesn't read your post or you may get a few vents as well.
-
Pat,
Think of it as a really good sammy.
Tou are putting Wendy's birthday in front of fishing. You are whipped. :woohoo:

It's one of those major milestone ones :( but think I can work around it. Probably rent a hall or something Friday night if available so the weekend will be open. You, Norma and the gang will be invited if your plans are open.

Mine broke a little too, but it still tasted good. Nice cook steve.
Maybe you used inferior ingredients. I bet Tweev could have shown you where to buy puff pastry that wouldn't break. You bought the cheap stuff. You should be ashamed. -
