I just checked my favorite meat market's website and saw that they have whole beef tenderloins for $2.99/lb and whole fryer chickens for $.89/lb. This seems like a pretty good deal. What is everyone else paying?

I'd like to see that website for the tenderloins. Begs to question the grade, same as the chicken.

the whole fryer price sounds right but $2.99 a pound for tenderloin? I do not think I want any :blink:

I am in central wisconsin. I will post the link to their website. Their weekly specials are on the upper right hand corner. You have to click on it. This place is like an hour from my house, but it is seriously worth the drive.

I have had very good luck with the meat from this market. In house butcher will cut to your liking, and I believe that they buy their meat locally.

That is a serious sale paper on their website. I wish I had a market worth a crap near me. All of the one around here are nothing but box trimmers. Oh well.

Don't know about the tenderloins, but I always get whole fryers, Tyson or Purdue for .89 per lbs.

Mike,

We had a deal like that about three years ago. They were Canada grade A which equates to Select ( I think..the lowest of the 4) It wasn't prime but it was tenderloin. Got a fair bit of mileage out of it with the in-laws

. They weren't well trimmed and there was a lot of fat and silverskin but a decent deal all the same.

Well for 2.99/lb. I guess I can afford to do a fair amount of trimming to get rid of silver skin and any other unwanted fat or gristle

The tenderloins must be at least choice graded. Their website says they only cut choice and higher beef.

Sorry if my reply sounded negative. I bought a freezerfull the last time. You just cant go wrong with tenderloin of any grade. In fact, most of the grading criteria don't even apply to the tenderloin.

Thats crazy cheap on the beef tenderloin. Im with everyone else, watch yourself on that one. I buy Purdue chickens here for .69 a pound about once a year. I usually get about 15 of them. I scored about 50 pounds of boston butts last week for .88 a pound. They were all natural non injected.

I have a friend in Ohio that owns and operates a beef processing plant and market. He also has a canning operation for beef and primarily uses "cutters" for canning. He does, however, keep the tenderloins and quite often sells them for less than $5 a pound. I've had a few, and, while they may not stand up to USDA prime, I would be hard pressed to pick them out as lesser quality in a blind taste test. I don't know if this is what this market is selling, but I'd give it a shot at that price, maybe even throw a couple in the freezer.
