I think the buffalo trace is the best bourbon I've had. Better than Woodford and at $44 for 1.75 l less expensive too. Only one problem the closest place I can buy it is Baltimore.

If you like the Trace try Russell Reserve.
-
And where in Baltimore might it be found?
-
That's a VERY nice traditional old time looking bottle, would set that bourbon out on display next to my son's 1860 Henry lever action .44-.40 octagon barreled rifle. :woohoo:
Well, I bought the rifle for him so it's part mine. :silly:
Happy sippin! -
I didn't buy this bottle. Here's a link to their where to buy.

Will do if I can find it in NJ. I haven't had it. -
Buffalo Trace is a nice distillery to visit, very scenic. Went to a wedding on the grounds several years ago. Makers and Woodford also do great tours with tasting the grounds are beautiful.

Thanks for the tip, looks like my local BevMo has it, but at $46. Worth a try since I love woodford.

Hey Tom
Never tried Buffalo Trace but will get some tomorrow. I'm all outta 1792, my latest craze so bouttime to try something new...does it say who distills and bottles it? Is it single barrell? small batch? Select? Def will give it a try but I wont tell you how much it is here ..dang I only have 8 retailers within 2 miles of my office :woohoo: ..oh..does it tell age and %alcohol by volume? -
Hey Clay Q
Here's what I sit next to my henry .44-.40:

Tom....that looks strong for sure...enough to knock anybody down....looks like the buffalo is comming out from inside the bottle..afraid I'm not a bourbon drinker but nothing stops me from trying.
-
I pay $30 a bottle for Woodford in NH. You need to boycott at $44.
Jim Beam Black. A bargain in bourbon. I defy you to do a blind tatsing and pick it out as cheap.
I just had Eagle Reserve on friday poker night. Mmmmmmmm..... -
Elmer T. Lee does a good job. If you get a chance try the Eagle Rare 10 year old single barrel bourbon. For $22 per 750ml, it is the best thing going. Just north of Kentucky in Indy
-
I think youmean Eagle Rare 10 year old single barrel
-
I'll have to give this one a try to Bourbonsnob...while I'm at it, I'll mention again 1792, an 8 year old reserve small batch whiskey that is higher proof that Woodford but comparable in smoothness and flavor... give it a try...I get it for $21/750.
-
wow, $30 for woodford 1.75? my local place with the best prices is $26 on woodford 750, $34 on 1L
-
Give Booker's bourbon a shot. It's smooth and has a punch.
-
I agree with the Bookers -- best I've had.
Also look into Old Rip, or Pappy Van Winkle if you can afford it. Woodford has too much of a cherry taste to it for me, but different strokes.... -
I've had Bookers no Old Rip Or Pappy Van Winkle

Thats how I got interested. My lunch buddy a TN native went on a bourbon tasting run and went to Buffalo Trace and said how good it was. I told him if found a bottle to buy me one. His BIL bought two bottles and he gave me one. He said if I didn't like it he buy it back. Today I told him thanks but I'll keep it. -
I can by it just a mile from my home.

I just started on bourbon and am planning a trip to the bourbon trail later this year. I have had Makers, Woodford and Pappy 12 and Pappy 20. I have to say Woodford is my favorite thus far. Pappy 20 isn't worth $100 for someone like. I will lookout for this one. Knob Creek is on my list as well. I'm sippin a little Pappy as I type. Good stuff :PJoe - I'm a reformed gasser-holic aka 4Runner Columbia, SC Wonderful BGE Resource Site: http://www.nakedwhiz.com/ceramicfaq.htm and http://www.nibblemethis.com/ and http://playingwithfireandsmoke.blogspot.com/2006/02/recipes.html

I love Buffaly Trace! A year or two ago, I was on a mission to track down a couple bottles of George T. Stagg, which is from Buffalo Trace's "Antique" collection. I believe it's only released once a year, and it's a very high proof since it's uncut and unfiltered. Every year's release is slightly different. This stuff is stroooong, but I enjoy it! Your tongue is only good for a couple sips at a time though, since it's so overwhelming.
Here's a pic I found on the net, but my bottles are from a different year and are 144.4 proof.
-
That looks good. If I can find it here in Oklahoma, I'll give it a try. Right now I have some Bullit. Knob Creek is quite tasty also!
-
That's purty good stuff. I thought it was lacking a little body. But hey...personal pref I s'pose.
My newest faves are:
1) Bernehiem Wheat
2) Van Winkles
3) Knob Creek
Happy sippin.

That distillery also bottles my favorite bourbon - Rock Hill Farms. Great stuff.
-
I'd put my 2 cents in but at my bar all my customers seem to drink Jack Daniels, a fine Kentucky mash. A few seem to go for Jack Single barrel. Can't sell Gentlemen Jack to save my life these days.
-
Jack is a Tennessee sour mash corn whiskey, and not a bourbon.
-
Well, I've read through the whole thread and can say I've tried about 95% of the ones mentioned and like them all. But my favorite hasn't been mentioned!?
Hard to find and a little pricey but Old Pogue is VERY good! -
Actually Jack is what I normally drink but have been sampling the bourbons. If I could get the trace locally it would replace the Jack
