Has anyone used briquetts instead of lump charcoal when grilling for a less smokey taste? what were the results? Thanks

Haven't ever heard of anyone using anything but lump in an egg. Good thing about lump is u can knock of the ash and re-use what is left in the firebox. Not sure that is true with briquettes. Sorry I was not any help.

I can't comment on the briquetts have only usued natural lump. If you are looking for less smokey I might suggest that you let your fire burn longer before cooking. A clean burning fire should help. Unless you are like my wife, she is considered a super taster and always says it's too smokey. Hope that helps some

Smoke flavor and intensity varies between brands of lump. Try Cowboy lump. Very little flavor added.

Briquettes will give you many more times the ash than lump does. Like Inksmyth said, you may want to give Cowboy lump a try. Lowe's and many Ace Hardware stores carry Cowboy.

Cowboy lump burns really fast IMO. Like JPF said, allow your lump to burn down (clean fire) to get less smokey taste. Using Cowboy will get you to that point quickly (also to get the bottom of your bag of lump quickly).

I have one question....Why? if you knew what was in a briquett you wouldn't want to eat any food cooked on it.

The WGC briquettes are made of natural wood and a starch binder only. Nothing more harmful in them than the lump we use. At least no chemicals are in them like other brands.

briquettes any number of times. They burn very hot and long.

Used them for a lo 'n' slo a couple of times and had excellent results.

A little more ash than usual but nothing to get upset about. Fer shr.

I have used WGC a few times, good product; I would try a small bag and see what you think. Nice thing about briquetts is they all are the same size. Even heating source and nice for grilling.

Anything to be gained by mixing lump w/ briquettes? If I had access to the WGC briquettes, I would try a mix on a lo & slo. Figure the lump would keep ash production down, the briquettes would add uniform size to the load and get more even spacing of the fuel. Lump would keep the load burning longer.
