Strange Grill Sound (burp?)

I just put on a rib roast. I got the egg up tp 500 and closed the vents to drop temp to 350. At 350 I opened the top vent about a 1/4" and opened the bottom vent about 1/2". After about 30 seconds I heard a whoosh and the lid jumped. I assume this is just a flame up when the air started circulating again.

your fire was starved for air. it will all even out, just be sure to burp it a couple times before you open it - just in case.
sometimes it will blow hot gasses or even flame and sparks out the lower draft door if you cut if off so abruptly - so watch the lower legs. -
