tried to pick up the cap with greasy fingers in sub-freezing temperature :(
JB Weld came to the rescure.
BONUS: Got it for free because the shelf ticket showed $7.99 but cash register scanned at $8.49, Woohoo, thanks to Canada's "Scanning Code of Practice"
Reassembled. I spread excess JB mix around the edge of the knob for better 'grip'
After curing with a lamp under it for half a day, it's back in service

Thanks Molly, Whew indeed, when I lost it's grip it was like a parachute in slow motion and I just froze - just like in a car accident! A Happy and Safe Holiday to you and all egg heads.

I wonder if the JB Weld people have done any market studies on their customer base...I'm thinking that there are a whole bunch of kamado and BGE buyers of their products...the need to add that to their list of items it fixes on the package...Visit my blog, dedicated to my Big Green Egg Recipies at http://www.bigtsbge.blogspot.com You can also follow my posts on FaceBook under the name Keep On Eggin' or the link http://www.facebook.com/#!/pages/Keep-On-Eggin/198049930216241

As Confucius says "T**ds Occur". But it looks like you have matters well in hand. Good job, and thanks JB Weld.

hope the repair will last, it should since the cap doesn't get stressed like the platesetter...until one drops itcanuckland

FWIW I have had my Egg for 2 1/2 years and have never used the ceramic cap one time. I have never had a problem shutting down by closoing the vents.

You're right, after mine broke on Sunday, I was able to extinguish the fire successfully by shutting down the daisies.
Problem is, the next day daisies was totally frozen shut. Couldn't rotate, couldn't slide and couldn't lift, nada. Had to pour hot water to free it - had to do it gingerly for fear of shocking the dome thermally.canuckland -
Canug - I actually did something similar this weekend. I had a clean break of one of my plate setter legs. Do you think that stuff would work on it?

There are two eggsidents I know will happen just not when. I will drop or knock the cap off the table and I will leave the thermopen in my pocket and wash it. At least the cap will be a cheap fix.

Yes I have seen others post a JB weld repaired plate setter.

I don't have a photo, but I have one that looks identical. The JB Weld has held it together for well over a year.
Merry Christmas. -
