I have an infatuation with German Black Forest Cherry Cake -- and am preparing to attempt my first [And no! Not in the Egg]. An, no! I am not a skilled pastry chef. I have been devouring the google search results.
Anyone have any suggestions on
[ a ] what to do?
[ b ] what not to do?
Any tips, hints, suggestions, recipes would be gratefully accepted.
Thanks!

This cake is very easy--it's essentially a chocolate layer cake with cherries and whipped cream, topped with chocolate curls. The hardest part is using a vegetable parer to cut up the curls.
But if you are not a cake baker, this book will teach you what you want to know, and you will find it is not hard at all. It's a great cake for parties--people get very impressed. But trust me, it's not difficult. There is a Black Forest Cake in here, a Swiss version, very good.

Thanks -- I had already found and printed out this recipe... One of my "study-guides!"

I made this several time when I was stationed in Germany. The wife of my German Landlord taught me how to make it. While the recipe I gave you is not the one I was taught it is close enough.
Believe it or not the real secret is in the Kirsch. If you can find it use it. Regular Cherry Brandy just doesn't quite make it. -
I was stationed in Berlin during the mid-to-late 60s. Russian, 98G.
Great posting! 'Ceptin' when the Rooskies brought their tanks right up to the border and would dive-bomb the city, breaking the sound barrier, windows and eardrums...

I was near Karlsruhe in the late 70's. During the height of the Badder-Meinhof reign of terror. Luckily we missed out on most of it..

Yep. Them Meinhof guys were badder than most!
