How many of you use your eggs for compitition cooking. I know I have seen Celtic Wolfe at Pork in the Park. I think I recognize some other names. Anyone else?

  • There are lots of teams. Bobby-Q, Jus Fer Fun, Dizzy Pig, Green Eggs & Ham, Daddy Pat, Pig Tickler Squeeze & lots more that I cannot remember that use eggs exclusively. Even Bad Byron of Butt Rub uses one for part of his competition cook.
  • i do. my first two competitions were this year with a best of 2nd in pork ribs :woohoo:

  • 2nd in ribs your first year. Congrats. Looks like a nice set up.
  • thanks. i was shocked. now i'm hooked.
    that's how they getcha
  • LOL, maybe that is how they TRY to hook ya. The one time I competed without Bobby & Charlie (they were in KC at the Royal) I got 2nd in ribs too. Unlike you though, if I never do another without them it will be too soon. I hope to do a lot more with them though.

  • That sounds like a story behind it....or is it 2 names
  • It's a lot of work isn't it. I have been helping on a team for a couple of years. I don't know how some of these people do it alone.
  • Two names, two teams. B)
  • yep, it's a lot of work. it's kinda of a natural progression for me because i'm trying to work this in as a retirement job, bbq on the egg that is
  • I was getting worried for Kevin
  • I was whipped & it was a FBA contest where the turn ins were an hour apart. KCBS only has 30 minutes between. I am not sure I could have done it and I had some helpers, just not the calibre of Bobby & Charlie.
  • nmsg
  • He may still compete but I have not noticed it recently. I have seen him as a judge, most recently at the Jack. He does cook on eggs though.
  • Who could ever forget Dr. BBQ.
  • I am pretty sure he cooked at the Royal the year.
  • Two larges and an XL. 20 or so contest in the last two years. Many times was only team with an egg.
  • Yep. He was there.
  • 20 in 2 years. Thats busy if you have to travel much.
  • Kevin actually cooked with us at the Jack this here. In addition to helping with a lot on the four main categories, he made our dessert entry. Hard to describe, apples in pastry with chocolate inside & caramel on top, wow was it good.
  • I know...I think it was you that gave me the boy scout card...I came up from Huntsville with a buddy on Friday PM
  • You just hit the thumb on the nail. That would have been me. Sorry, I forgot your handle. I met a lot of people that week.
  • No worries, you probably talke to several hundred people that week.

I keep that card in my wallet and have shown it to a few people here. I still plan on getting some made up. It is a great reminder about priorities.
  • Exactly why I carry them and give the out. I believe very much in what it says. I am skipping the competition this weekend to cook for our annual Christmas Yule Log event.
  • Bobby and crew headed for the FBA final cook? Is he/charlie and sam/diane entered?
  • Yes, both teams are cooking there this weekend, Perry, FL. As far as I know, they will be the only two of the 30 invited teams using a egg. They will only use eggs.
  • I meant to tell you. We did x-mas wooden ornaments at our den meeting last night. One of the dads cut circles out of 1x6 lumber and sanded it. The boys used paint markers to design their own ornaments. One of the boys did one that said, "I love my den leader, merry christmas". Very cool!
  • Something like that makes it ALL worth it. Congrats.

Ray still competes when he can Tom. He just bought a new trailer for just that purpose.

He would love to do a lot more competitions but he is busy most of the year. Maybe when he retires he can cook more...oh wait I don't think he can retire, he's like a shark.

    :)
