As it turns out the Supreme Court has given authority to the EPA and the EPA wants to charge an annual tax for belching and flatulence dairy cows, beef cattle and hogs.
Hopefully the AL Agriculture commissioner will make some headway with this.
I guess there will have to be an EPA Fart Stamp on all meat.
I wonder what is going to happen to our Lump companies.

Can't trust them if you are over 50.

Fortunately there are journalists who do research and not just look for the best headline:Alabama Cattlemen’s Association Executive Vice President Billy Powell says the press release was a prime example of creating a mountain out of a dung heap.
“There is no such thing as a cow tax,” Powell said. “It was one of those cases where you say you’re going to make a snwoman tomorrow, but it’s got to snow first.
There’s nothing in that July bill where they would propose a tax in any form, and I don’t even think the EPA has that authority. There was never a proposed tax for livestock emissions of methane.”

(Not directing the journalist remark to anyone here, just responding to all the headlines that come up when searching online.) -
Unless of course that journalist was wrong too. :-)
I hate the news! -
Frank,
That's part of the three things men have to know over 50.

Being a government agency the EPA probably would be thriled if the cows just learned to apologize for their actions, pay a tax deductible fine and agree to incorporate a genetic apology in their genatic offspring.
That way they can continue polluting the air like their industrial counterparts. Meanwhile, the EPA feels like they won one and the cows are indifferent to the EPA's feelings.
Government in action.

Sure is - I was flying today so I made sure I did rule number 1 a few times at strategic times even though I didn't have to before getting in a bind . Hate to get up on a plane.
Better not waste time with rule number 3 for now. Might be hard to get by the forum gestapo. -
Will anwser this with a typical redneck response which is something along the lines of the same response given for gun control or emision standards on my Hog. "I got some'en for the EPA " but not stupid enough to know in the end they will win if they push so stop it before it becomes law.

my wife worked for a US senator about 16, 18 years ago. they were talking about methane emissions back then, too. haven't made any 'progress' one way of the other as far as i can tell.ed egli avea del cul fatto trombetta -Dante

Grandpa
I am confused by
"I wonder what is going to happen to our Lump companies. "
Are you joking or are you serious? If you are serious how does cow induced methane impact the lump charcoal market?
Thanks
