Beer for your Chickens Butt :-)

<p />Those chickens on the right look like they have done too much jail time :P heh[p]We did our first beer butt chickens the other night. One with orange juice, onion a little garlic. The other with Budweiser, onion and a little garlic.[p]The orange juice had a slight sweeter flavor, and the Budweiser one was ok, but nothing great.[p]Question: What beer have you found to work good when doing these?[p]I am wondering is a lager, or dark beer would have had better results.[p]Any suggestions?

Nice looking birds, what set-up did you use??? If you like kind of a sweet tasting bird with a hint of cinnamon try Brant's Brined Beer Butt Bird. It takes a couple of days if you follow the recipe but well worth it.[p]Cheers,

I will not comment on the jail time.[p]This weekend I did a chicken using Ginger Ale & Cajun seasonings as a rub. Chicken couldn't have been much better.[p]In the past I have used everything from Diet Colas to canned chicken stock, they always come out great.[p]Lewis

New Bob,[p]Setup was a raised grid over a drip pan. I think if I start doing these regular I might order that Beer Butt Chicken Rack I saw... I did have trouble with one of those birds staying up, turned out it had broken breast bone which compromised it sitting on the can on its own very well.[p]I saw some post that doing them without a drip pan will get a nice crunchy skin, but honestly, I had the grease flare ups you get when doing whole chickens, and the skin was crunchy anyway.
