Had the day off today so I decided to get my Larges ready for Thanksgiving Day. They are both ready for new gaskets after years of cooking and there was a bit of mold from where they have sat for about 6 weeks. (I know, I know)
Anyway I fired them up with a full load of old lump and let them burn at about 600°. After about 30 minutes of solid white smoke the neighbors started coming around to see if the house was on fire. They saw the smoke but it didn't smell like anything was cooking.
I solved the problem by dropping 1 hickory chunk and 1/2 of an onion in each EGG. After about 30 minutes of that they started coming back to ask what was cooking.
Good to know the neighbors are looking out.

of course, houses are made of wood, they still might think there was an issue.
i once smelled oak smoke and though "wow. i wonder who is smoking around here?" it was a small building fire. soon the nice oak smell gave way to he stink of burning vinyl siding and asphalt shingles.
as for the mold, i think you can be forgiven. you cook on the road an awful lot don't you?ed egli avea del cul fatto trombetta -Dante -
I've got a small that I don't use that much and I get mold in it all the time. I just light it up and hope the high temp will take care of things. Is there a better way?

nope
Well yeah cook on it more :woohoo: -
One of my neighbors in California complained about me cooking all the time.
It wasn't the smoke. It was the fact the good smell kept him up all night. He stopped complaining when I started feeding him.. -
I thought the onion might be a gasket tip
