Ok, so after years of listening (or not) to my wife wanting a gasser, I gave in. BBQ Galore had them on their "store closing" sale. The burners on this one run top to bottom and I was going to put a chicken on the spit I got with it. It's been a long time since I haven't spatchcocked one, so I'm curious how y'all would say to cook it. Would you crank up the heat intially, then throttle back. If so, would you use all three burners? The book that came with it said to turn the back infrared burner on high and leave the other burners off. Problem there is, mine doesn't have that feature. Any help with this will be greatly appreciated.

I'd cook it on my egg.

What is with the wife wanting a gasser??

Get a new wife and cook the chicken on the Egg. :woohoo: :woohoo: :woohoo: :woohoo: :woohoo:SEE YOU IN FLORIDA, March 14th and 15th 2014 http://www.sunshinestateeggfest.com You must master temp, smoke, and time to achive moisture, taste, and texture! Visit www.bubbatim.com for BRISKET HELP

I have no idea other than the fact that the Egg is my baby and she likes to cook every once in awhile, herself. My daughters always kid me with "Oooohh Dad, I came this close to touching your Egg today". Real funny!!!

Now that's one of those good ideas on paper, kind of thing.

My wife was reading over my shoulder and started laughing.
I looked at her and said what? She leaned over and gave me a little kiss and said. "You are my gasser"!
I'll get even somehow.

I think I would have taught her how to build a fire instead of buying a gasser.

Cook the chicken on the egg and then when done put it in the gasser. Call into the wife to bring out a plate and take the chicken out of the gasser. Put egg accessories back in the gasser.
If you must... Use the back infrared burner only and put the chicken on and lit it spin.

If you tell the wife, I will deny it. :P :PSEE YOU IN FLORIDA, March 14th and 15th 2014 http://www.sunshinestateeggfest.com You must master temp, smoke, and time to achive moisture, taste, and texture! Visit www.bubbatim.com for BRISKET HELP

That's the problem, no infrared burned, and the regular burners run top to bottom.

If you don't have the back infrared burner you'll need to rig up a quasi indirect with the bottom burner(s).
When I did roto birds in the egg, I used the rectangular firebricks for setting up indirect, letting only a small part of the burner exposed. This way as the bird spins, the rotation is over heat, over brick, back to over heat. How much of the burner is exposed you'll have to find out with trial and error. Start 75% brick, 25 burner. Roto birds are typically a high temp cook, greater than 400 degrees. So, you see why the brick is important. Average cook time is about 60-75 minutes.
There is something about roto birds that spatchcocking just can't match. I dig it. Twww.ceramicgrillstore.com ACGP, Inc. -
Didn't read the other replies..but I would cook it on an egg and not worry about a rotissere..the egg doesn't need one...still unsure why you would ask such a question here...

That's what I was looking for...Thanks!! I put a small drip pan and some foil on the grill to make it indirect. If I use my firebricks, then I won't have room for the pan. Did you not use a pan?

long story! Thought there might be someone out there that understood my plight.

Glad you didn't cave to the overwhelming wife pressure. Gave my stainless steel gasser to the neighbor and end up feeding her 4 nights a week of my XL and Small eggs. She only cooks on it when we are out of town...
