Large BGE & Turkey Roasting Pan

Any advice for a decent turkey roasting pan online or maybe something that can be found at a standard chain that fits well in the Large Big Green Egg? Most of the ones I'm looking at so far are just a tad too big...thanks!

Here are some thoughts. I use a "V" rack w/drip pan for a 12-16 pounder.

Go to your local Dollar Store. Disposable pans for $1 can easily be bent to fit.

I use a 15" round pan with 1" straight sides as a drip pan, resting on BGE feet (to keep drippings from burning) on the plate setter. I put the turkey directly on the grid. I don't understand the need to cook the bird in a roasting pan. Without a roasting pan I can cook a bigger bird, also.

pretty much the same thing here, 13.5 inch round paella pan with a grill sitting directly on the pan. no problems with it not going high on the sides and i think the cook times are a little quicker with this setup.

I do the same as Julie, and if I'm not concerned with presentation, I separate the front from the back so I can cook the breast to 160 and the dark meat to 180 and don't have to mess with the ice. -RP

I was keeping an eye out for one based on the picture of what Mad Max used. I found one at Linens and Things. They are going out of business and the store by my house had a ton of these and they were down to 40% off. Will fit the Large egg perfectly once you cut off the handles. Also includes a rosting grate.

I've never messed with the ice, either. I brine my turkeys. The breast doesn't dry out.

I went to Bed Bath and Beyond and picked up an All-Clad 17 x 13 inch roasting pan with rack. All-Clad B1 Hard Anodized Nonstick Roaster with Rack.

It fits in the large, in that it can close, and I imagine with a bird in it, it will still be fine. I just bought it and placed it on the grill (which was sitting on the indirect heat plate), so with the grill at the opening edge, the lid of the Large Egg closed.

I'm sharing this because none of the links above worked for me. Hope this helps others looking for a pan. I'd say anything 17 x 13 or smaller with 5-6 inch sides and handles that don't flare would work.

I have only two turkeys total under my belt but both were awesome. IMO, you don't need to put the turkey in a pan at all. Platesetter + disposable aluminum drip pan, grid on top of the upward-facing platesetter legs, and turkey right on the grid.

I've used the throw away aluminum foil pan on the feet and a rack over it to get a bird in the medium. I've used an old pan with non-stick also on feet and put the rack in it. Both ways save dripping for gravy.

Here’s the pan I used around thanksgiving. Perfect fit on the large. Accommodated a 21lb bird no problem. Added bonus is that it’s safe on the stovetop if you wanna make the gravy following Mad Max’s recipe. Price has gone up since I bought it, but it’s very well made and will last forever.
