I want to throw some shoulder cut countries on with the spider rig. I am using the BGE pizza stone but I should or should not put tin foil on it?
I am going to use a drip pan under the ribs, but I don't want to get anything on the stone for fear of giving my next pizza a bad taste. Any Ideas?

Go ahead and wrap that rascal. But even if you don't and it gets all gunky, it will come clean putting it over a hot fire (as I learned yesterday).
-
I wrap with foil just for easy cleanup
-
thanks I thought the foil would melt down
-
at a high temperature I've had very thin foil melt, but you're doing ribs at what maybe 250 or 275? No problem. BTW I always wrap my plate setter when using it for indirect cooks as clean up is easy compared to scraping off burnt piles of crud.Re-gasketing America one yard at a time.

Even though the pizza stone sits so low in the fire on the spider the tin foil won't melt?
-
The melting point of aluminium is around 1200 degrees F so unless you go nuclear you should be fine.

I use foil all the time and haven't had any problems...

I bought a cheap 14" aluminum pizza pan. I cover it with foil then place it on top of the stone whenever I am using that as my indirect piece.
The foil comes off, the pan is fine, and the stone is white and clean. -
Did the same thing as Fidel.
Sometimes I will make kind of a pan out of foil and put that on the setter or pizza stone.
It is easier to keep it clean than doing a clean burn IMO.
Today I just used the spider upside down, foiled the deep dish pizza pan, then the adjustable rig, BGE Grid and the ribs.
Works great. Love the spider and AR.

I did a turkey @325 for about 5 hours and was surprised to see the heavy duty foil I used had melted on the bottom. It was wrapped around the pizza stone on the spider which came out really clean white even wrapped in foil.
