Well..it's my fault..but I hadn't checked the tightness of the band on my small dome in some time...at the very end of a long day of cooking...open the lid on my small and the dome flew completely out and ended up like this....any idea what a new dome for a small costs???
WADDA bummah!!!!

Man that freakin sucks!!!!!!!!!!!!! :( :( :( Sorry, but no idea what a new dome'll cost ya :(
-
Dang, man--I'm feeling your pain. I did the same thing to the rain cap on my small, and had to wait a really long time before it was replaced because the dealer ordered a replacement cap for a Mini instead of a Small.

Ques-que une bummeurre!
  :ermm: -
So very sorry to hear and see your problem! No preaching will be done at this death site, but PLEASE email me after you buy your new $100 replacement. A buck'$ worth of nut$ is all you have to lose for a surefire solution...and NO I'm not selling them!Re-gasketing America one yard at a time.

A grim reminder to the rest of us to "keep your nuts tight". Sorry for your loss. :-(

Eggtucky,
Man that has to hurt. Whatever a new top costs, it will be less painful than being without an egg.

True..and I still have my large..but I have become more dependent on my small than my large!!..gonna be calling the mothership as soon as they open tomorrow!!
-
Aw, crap. No idea, but it's more than zero.
-
That just brings tears to my eyes

I'm sorry to see your tragedy. It brings back bad memories of when my ineggsperienced friend tried to close my egg without asking how to unlock the hinge. The slow motion image of it crashing to the concrete is for ever in my head.
My friend paid about $180 for the replacement large dome and my egg is as good as new.

About $100 at Fred's:

hey steve..thanks for the link..dunno why I didn't think of fred's..placed the order this morning..and guess who will be going over his large today to make sure everthing is good and snug!?
-
Ouch! I've never tightened my nuts. I know what I'm doing tonight.
-
yeah..came with no warning...thank goodness I had just taken the mac n cheese off...felt kinda weird when I opened it, so like a retard, opened it again and that's when it just rolled right outta the band and onto the floor...pretty helpless feeling and almost in slo mo.. did find out one thing...my large pizza stone fit perfectly onto the fire ring so I could at least put the fire out and let it cool down...doh!
-
yeah..be sure to..the other irony is I've had a nomex gasket kit for my large here for about 6 mos..guess my small will be getting the nomex first!..haha
-
I just put mine on this past week. In doing so, I realized that the nuts on the hinge were hopelessly loose, I had not noticed it while using the egg or when I took the band off to put the gasket on, guess I should have realized it a couple months ago when my lid started randomly falling when open, I could not leave it alone open, turns out the table was leaning forward contributing to the out of level egg, but the loose nuts were also contributing:

Can locking nuts be used to prevent this problem?
