The First Mate put together this nice Shepard's Pie. She used sweet potato instead of white. We also cooked up a couple of Nectarines with some brown sugar and bourbon. Not as good as peaches but still pretty tasty.

I'm new to this. Why would you bake your shepherd's pie in the egg? Why not just do it in your oven?

smoke flavor

Why do it in the oven when you can do it in the egg? Why do it in the oven when you could do it much quicker in the microwave.

Does it taste different or better baked in the egg vs the oven?

I like it on the egg, as Stanley said you can add a little smoke to it. Go lightly with it though, if you don't eat it all the first day the smoky taste can get a bit too strong.

Most of the recipes we are cooking today originated before electric/gas ovens were invented. By cooking in a coal-charcoal fired oven you are imparting flavors you can't get from your oven. You will actually taste what the inventor of these recipes intended.
There are quite a few recipes that benefit greatly from Egg cooking. One of my favorites is pizza. While you can do it in the oven, I feel the charcoal adds a great level of flavor. Chili is another recipe that benifits, as well as most of your Italian dishes.
