removing adhesive from egg after nomex fails

anyone have a good way to get that adhesive strip that stays behind on the egg when the nomex peels off? i want to reappy with super 77 but acetone wont help it literary the whole adhesive strip top and bottom in tack . if i have to scrap with a putty knife i wont be using my egg for a little while. little help please. I just finished my table last night to!!

I found that a paint scraper with a razor blade worked better than a putty knife.

I used a very sharp chizzle and acetone to clean mine up before I used a wire brush, then a rag. Getting it completely clean sure seems to ensure a good job on the next gasket install.

Burn it off. Fire it up to 700 plus degrees and place a nut or bolt in the gap between the two halves. Should leave you with a good clean surface. I know it did in my case. Same Nomex same adhesive strip.

I agree with Mike on the heat but I used a MAPP torch and scraper,doing a short section at a time.
