We're planning on taking some vacations at rental properties in the mountains and at the coast this fall and winter. Of course none of them have Big Green Eggs, but they all have fairly nice multi burner stainless gassers. Is it worth trying to cook ribs or butts on them? If they'll hold a stable, low and slow temp, can I make fair food? I know some use foiled packs of wet wood for smoke. No way to avoid the gas taste, I guess. Or, would I be better served by purchasing a cheap charcoal brikette type grill once I get there? I never tried cooking anything other than hamburgers and steaks when we were pre-BGE.

I don't have a portable egg to take with me.
