OK, so I woke up this morning and my eye still hurt pretty badly and I had some blurred vision so I went to see my doc.
Turns out the lump that popped off was indeed lit and hot enough to burn. Luckily for me I am blessed with cat-like reflexes. My eyelids shut in the nick of time and actually caught the spark between the upper and lower lid. I have small burns on the lid edge of both lids.
After many tests, swabs, flushes, and swabbings my eye has been certified as clean and free of debris. My otherwise perfect vision has been temporarily reduced to 20/70 in the left eye. The doc says this is because the swollen and inflamed burn areas are irritating the cornea every time I blink. The lens and cornea are otherwise undamaged.
Those that urged me to go to the doc, I thank you. I will think of you all every hour on the hour as I have to administer two drops of Tobramycin in my left eye each hour for the next week.
The warning needs to be repeated because this is no fun - wear eye protection if you use a torch to light the grill.
We now return you to your regularly scheduled programming.

OUCH, did you get the glow in the dark neon green stuff in it? I scratched my eye with a piece of sand on the cruise last year and had to go to the ships DR. I saw green glowing for a few hours. Have to say they were wonderful and it was the cheapest Dr visit I ever had $85.00 for tests, visit, and two prescriptions. LOL and the DR was nice. told me to stay out of the sun for 3 days! :ohmy:
we were headed to shore snorkeling for the day I almost cried, then he laughed said to just wear heavy sun glasses and I would be fine. Hope the eye is fine and the pain is not to bad. get better quick! Julie -

They numbed the eye and put in some yellowish dye then examined it under the blacklight. Everything has a yellow tint to it, but they said it will clear in the next couple hours.
Unfortunately the topical anesthetic is wearing off too, but they did give me a bottle of Tylenol #3 to take the edge off.

A few years ago during a routine exam, it was determined that the vision in my right eye was failing miserably due to cataracts. The options were: have a lens implant or lose the vision in that eye. I absolutely detest having anything done to my eyes, but in this case, I had no choice. After cutting through the cornea, they pulverized and vacuumed out the old lens before inserting the new one, which I was told was designed in a fashion that allowed it to expand into place. No sutures were needed and when I woke the next morning I had normal vision again! Simply amazin'!!~ -

Glad to hear of your cat like reflexes. :ohmy: It's good to know that all will be well soon. There's alot of glands along the edge of your eyelids, so that must be ucomfortable. Hopefully the pain will subside as you continue to shop for goggles,helmet and a fire suit. :woohoo: Now that we know you're ok, expect to catch a little flack. After all, it could've been worse.

Glad no serious damage was done, Rod. I just obtained a new Map Torch. Never thought how dangerous it could be without safety glasses. Lately, my reflexes have ramped up to the speed of a snail.

Rascal, my wife recently had the lens in her right eye replaced. It was amazing how well she could see right after her surgery. Unfortunately she now has a secondary cadillac. The front of the little thin envelope which holds the lens has become cloudy. They predicted that it would happen. So, they will go in and burn off just the front of the envelope with a lazer, to clear things back up. Glad yours was a great success too.

I usually play with a flat pick, but I have recently been finger picking and adding some percussion and fret tapping. Not so easy on an acoustic.
I haven't touched an electric guitar in years - I used to play a Fender HM Stratocaster and a Charvelle back in the day. Now with kids all I have is an Ibanez acoustic. -
Do you play any bluegrass? I pick a 5 string.

Oh boy, I guess there are always some risks with these types of procedures. Having been there, I will pray for a successful outcome. Please let me know how it goes as I'll probably be facing another5 lens replacement in the future. As Red Skelton always said at the end of his performances.. "And May God Bless".
