Just don't drop one on your foot.....

Lost about half the nail on my right index finger. My chefs knife chopping some leftover chicken for a calzone. Actually the nail was left hanging on barely so I cut it off the rest of the way, washed the knife, and kept on chopping. It never really bled.

great advice - any adult beverages and these shields don't come off. Since they take a bit of dexterity with two hands I think of it as a soberiety test before getting started. Besides that I was only a wee boy when My dear Father removed three finger tips and two whole joints in a wood working accident using a jointer and having been - well let's just say - tight!

i do suspect it will throb when the the wine wears off ... ice and elevation will help . and my best wishes for a speedy recovery .

You didn't lose any body parts, your fine. Try growing up in a slaughter house like Seitz. S-E-I-T-Z spells bologna. Never got a dime for that commercial.

I'm cancelling my order for a Shun 10" Elite Chef's knife!!!!

When I worked at Monfort up in St. Joe seems like once a week somebody lopped off a finger, stabbed themselves in the leg, or some other nonsense - in spite of all the safety gear.
That was not fun work. -
Be careful there or we are going to insist you change your handle to shorty... Glad to hear you could keep chopping.

My table saw claimed 1/4" inch of my left index finger a couple years back. :( Hope the nail grows back completely for you.

Ron,
BE CAREFULL, we need you alive and well for Eggtoberfest! -
Where's the photo?

Heineken & Shun(s) really do not mix well, as I myself can attest. The good news is usually it's a clean cut & you learn to tuck your holding fingers quickly (hopefully)
Good luck -
Don't cancell. You'll love it!

UGH! last Dec Neil took the first joint and the top of his middle finger on his left hand off on his joiner. it has healed up but is tender. no nail to keep clean now! LOL when it happened he was only on Coffee as it was 4 am. he is an early bird. hold that hand up above your heart, it will not throb as bad if at all. Julie

Thanks everyone.
I hope the nail does grow back, its unsightly as is.
Pain did set in about the same time it did for Steve Spurrier last night. It was throbbing enough to affect my sleep. Oh well, live and learn. -
My son did something similar last month helping my husband make meatloaf. Bled like a son of a gun. Hubby had the tweezers and magnifying glass out to make sure he had it all out of the meatloaf. Then he got his feelings hurt when I wouldn't eat any.
I myself sliced the pad of my thumb last night preparing food for the Seattle eggfest. Not to worry, bandaged it up right away and quit cooking shortly thereafter.
